My Thoughts

I read my first Paige Toon book last year and haven’t forgotten it since, this is another I can’t forget, and nor do I want to.

This is romance so perfectly done, it’s real and it’s raw and I felt all the feelings reading this!

I loved the Cornish setting, I love the sea and the beach and this incorporated the elements and their qualities so beautifully. This really did sweep me away, I loved the homeliness of the setting, and the feeling of belonging. Liv works so hard to make the best of what she has, she’s ambitious, caring and very skilled. Family is so important to her and what has kept her in Cornwall.

The characters are just perfect, they all have their flaws and I liked the way we gradually get to know them, as they do each other. Michael, Liv’s brother is one of my favourites, and I loved the way he protects ‘his baby sister’. The characters suffer sad events in their lives, and it’s how they respond to each other and move on from these which picked up my heart and put it back together again.

Their sayings to one another, their routines and things they did for fun let me feel close to them and understand what they liked. Michael dancing was the best thing, and when Liv sculpted this made me feel in awe of her many talents.

I don’t think you could read this and fail to be swept away by it all, it’s intensely emotional and at times devastatingly sad. It felt like an emotional song, one that makes you want to cry your eyes out at the sad parts and wipe away the tears and runny nose at the happier!

There was nothing I’d want to change about the way this was done, it was just so perfect. From Cornwall to LA, from family Sunday roasts to songwriting it has it all and everything in between. When we read about Liv and Finn meeting six summers ago, I wanted this to be their life now, I hate it when something is so perfect and it’s snatched away. As we re-visit each summer since I clung onto hope that it would be just as special as that first time they met. Yet, people grow older, move on and life changes, it can’t be the same, yet I wanted it to be the same but different. This was so strong a story it made me desperately want these characters to be happy.

I don’t think my heart will ever be the same again and these will be characters that will stay with me. It’s one of those stories that gets you right in the heart, then just when you think everything will be ok, something else happens. I will however say that I loved the ending and felt I could breathe again! This is a very special story, with the most wonderful characters. I couldn’t have loved this more.

The Blurb

Six summers ago

Liv and Finn meet working in a bar on the rugged Cornish coastline, their futures full of promise. When a night of passion ends in devastating tragedy they are bound together inextricably. But Finn’s life is in LA with his band, and Liv’s is in Cornwall with her family – so they make a promise. Finn will return every year, and if they are single they will spend the summer together.

This summer

Liv crosses paths with Tom – a mysterious new arrival in her hometown. As the wildflowers and heather come into bloom, they find themselves falling for one another. For the first time Liv can imagine a world where her heart isn’t broken every year.

Now Liv must make an impossible choice. And when she discovers the shocking reason that Tom has left home, she’ll need to trust her heart even more . . .

Reading and reviewing books I have enjoyed; mainly reading thrillers, psychological thrillers, crime procedurals with the occasional rom-com/ feel-good book thrown in for balance!
