Thank you to Team Books And The City for my place on the blog tour.

My Thoughts

I know I’m always in for a treat with a Heidi Swain book because I feel like I can get to know the characters so much as if they’re part of my own family.

It’s particularly on sunny mornings when I wish I could pop down to the beach and see the sun glistening in the sea, and enjoy the beauty of the English coastline. If you can’t do that then read this for a trip to Kittiwake Cove, a fictional place yet close to some of the real ones I live to visit.

It’s the characters that I enjoyed spending time with, Ally, her father Geoff,  and her friend from birth Flora; they felt like one big family. They genuinely cared for each other and I’d love to have been invited for one of their dinners in the garden! Picnics outside surrounded by the hollyhocks sounds pretty perfect to me.

Ally is a character not to be underestimated, whilst she has a strong sense of home, she also enjoys an adventure too. It’s her love for travel, for something different and unknown that we see when she takes a trip to Barcelona. Where of course there’s romance in the warm air, yet it’s not just on Spanish shores that magic happens and it’s these romantic rendezvous which made my heart flutter.

It was cheering to read something where the characters are such lovely people, who boost each other up in life and it’s that strong feeling of friendship and connection I felt as I closed the book. A really delightful summer read!

The Blurb

Her dream holiday is his everyday life. His dream holiday is her normal life. What happens when they collide?

Ally and her dad, Geoff, run the family business, a creative retreat, from their home Hollyhock Cottage in picturesque Kittiwake Cove. They give their guests their dream break, but Ally hankers after glamourous city living, fancy restaurants and art galleries.

Ally’s survival strategy is to escape out of season, take a break abroad and pretend to be the person she always imagined she would be. She meets Logan while she’s away and he turns out to be exactly the kind of distraction she’s looking for.

With her spirits restored, Ally returns home, picks up the reins again and sets her sights on another successful season, but when Logan unexpectedly arrives on the scene, she soon realises she’s in for a summer that’s going to be far from straightforward…

A story about bringing a holiday home – and what happens when what goes on on holiday comes back to bite you…

Reading and reviewing books I have enjoyed; mainly reading thrillers, psychological thrillers, crime procedurals with the occasional rom-com/ feel-good book thrown in for balance!
